As a musician, I tell stories. The hospital is teeming with them. I have composed for the BBC and TEDx, opened shows for De La Soul, Stephen Fry and Saul Williams, and released two EP's. At the moment, I getting my first album mixed and writing the second, as well as working on a few exciting commissions.
I also run The Prop Up, a monthly night of music which gives space to artists with mental health difficulties. This work is supported by Arts Council England and The Royal College of Psychiatry.
As a doctor I have spoken at TEDx, universities and international conferences about music in healthcare, specifically researching the use of urban music genres. I will be working in Chelmsford from August 2020.
As a faciltator I host workshops in wards, schools and conferences teaching improvsation and expressive writing. I have produced several science-meets-art events in collaboration with Science Gallery London and the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
What am I working on now?
- Writing an experimental hip-hop opera about schizophrenia. Funded by Help Musicians UK via their 'Fusion Fund'.
- Finishing up my album to release in 2021. It's an exploration of Indian stories, rhythms and soundscapes. Imagine Four Tet, Kendrick and A.R Rahman had a baby.
